About St. Jude
Tri Delta’s official philanthropy is children cancer charities. In 1999, Tri Delta partnered with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to raise funds and awareness for this valuable cause. St. Jude is a hospital dedicated to treat children regardless of race, religion or financial status.
Since 1962, the hospital founded by entertainer Danny Thomas has been dedicated to treating childhood catastrophic diseases, mainly cancer. About 5,400 patients are treated each year at St. Jude. Not only does St. Jude treat patients at the hospital, but they are a research hospital that shares all of its medical findings with the world for free. In 1962, the most common cancer survival rate was 4% and today the survival rate is 94%.
What is Tri Delta doing for St. Jude?
In 2002, Tri Delta pledged to raise $1 million in four years to found the Teen Room at St. Jude. We finished this goal one year ahead of schedule and today the Teen Room is a haven for patients to get away from parents, nurses, and doctors and be with kids their own age. It is equipped with Internet, video games, stereos, games and many lounging areas that teenagers love.
In 2006, we pledged to raise $10 million in 10 years. To date Tri Delta as an organization has raised 7.6 million dollars. Our chapter was asked to raise $62,500 to fulfill this goal and I am proud to say that we rose over $50,000 to date. It is our chapter’s goal to raise the rest of this money by the end of the calendar year!

Epsilon Epsilon Fundraising
Each Fall quarter our chapter hosts Cupcakes for Cures. With delicious cupcakes baked by our own Deltas. This year’s event will be hosted at Farmers Market. We hope to see you there!
We also hold our annual Sincerely Yours letter writing campaign each Fall. Each member writes letters to family and friends asking for donations to help the research at St. Jude.
Our most popular event is our Kickin’ for Cures Soccer Tournament Spring quarter. After a pancake breakfast, the fraternities of Cal Poly come out to compete for the title of champions and to support St. Jude.
Delta Chi holds the title of 2009 Kickin’ for Cures Champions.
